How to Intervene

If you witness or experience harassment, there are safe ways to intervene.

The 5Ds of Bystander Intervention:

  1. Distract – Interrupt the situation without direct confrontation

  2. Delegate – Seek help from someone else, like a lifeguard or call 999

  3. Document – Record the incident, ensuring the victim’s safety and consent

  4. Delay – Check in with the victim after the incident to offer support

  5. Direct – If safe, address the harasser directly

If you do not feel safe or able to intervene directly, you can phone the police on 999 or 101.
